K.C. Li, BSc (Econ), LLM, TEP
 
K.C. Li is the Chairman of Mauritius International Trust Co. Ltd (MITCO) and has held key positions in the Government of Mauritius for the modernisation and liberalisation of the monetary and financial services sectors. After a brilliant career in the public service, he started MITCO in 1993 just as Mauritius entered into the world of offshore finance. He holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in International Taxation from St Thomas University School of Law, Florida, USA, a Masters degree in international Taxation (MIT) from Regent University School of Law, Virginia, USA, a B.Sc. (Econ) from the London School of Economics and a Post Graduate Diploma in Rural Planning from the Institute of Social Studies, The Hague, Holland. During his public career, K.C. Li was Advisor to the Minister of Finance for eight years, Chief Executive Officer of The National Mutual Fund, Chairman of the State Investment Corporation Management Ltd and Chairman of The Stock Exchange Commission (the predecessor of the Financial Services Commission). He served as President of the Association of Trust and Management Companies in Mauritius from 2007 to 2009.

K.C. brings to the team his dynamic leadership, his wealth of knowledge about the use of double tax treaties and his long experience in fiscal planning and revenue administration.


John Harper, FCA, FCIS, TEP
 
John Harper qualified as Chartered Accountant in 1975 and an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators in 1976. He is now a Fellow of both Institutes.

Following ten years working in private practice in Jersey, he successively became Finance Director of two of the largest commercial groups in the Channel Islands and Managing Director of Trident Trust, a position he held for eleven years since 1989.

In March 2000, he moved to Bermuda and took up the position of Managing Director of Appleby Trust Group, which is owned by partners of the Island’s largest law firm, Appleby.

Mr. Harper was one of the founder members of the Jersey branch of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, and has served as Treasurer of STEP worldwide since 2001.

John Harper served as Managing Director of MITCO in 2005-2007 and now acts as Senior Consultant to MITCO.


Jim Bette-Bennett, FCA
 
Jim Bette-Bennett joined MITCO as Director since 2003, after serving 20 years as Partner in Reads and Co, Chartered Accountants in Jersey. Reads was one of the largest firms there and represented KPMG and latterly RSMi. The trust business of Reads was sold to EFG Private Bank.

Whilst with Reads and Co, Jim was a Director of its trust company and responsible for the audit of some major international bank subsidiaries and investment funds. He was also Director of Funds that were managed for Lombard Odier and Smith and Williamson.

Jim brings to the team his many years of hands-on experience of all aspects of ‘offshore’ business and wealth management. Jim is based in Europe and travels to meet clients for tax & fund advisory work.


Sin C. Li, CPA, MBA  

Sin Li is a Certified Public Accountant from the USA and holds an MBA from George Washington University, Washington DC. Sin has held various senior accounting positions in the United States with Mazars, PWC and most recently with the International Finance Corporation. He had also run a Technology Venture Fund and private equity funds.

Sin Li has wide experience in corporate finance and fund management. He is based in New York.


Bernard Jeffcote, FCA  

Bernard was an International Tax partner with Ernst & Young, London for 20 years and Director of Tax Training for Ernst & Young International for some years. He is currently engaged in the work of the OECD Harmful Tax Practices project and is also a Commissioner of Taxes in the UK.

Bernard is available to clients of MITCO to assist in international tax structuring.


Doorgesh Ramsewak, QC  

Mr Ramsewak is Legal Advisor to MITCO and its clients. He was formerly the Director of Public Prosecutions and subsequently the Solicitor General of Mauritius until 1992, having been called to the bar at the Lincoln’s Inn in 1969. He was also formerly Chairman of the Unified Revenue Board, now named Mauritius Revenue Authority. He drafted most of the commercial and financial laws of Mauritius.


Amal Autar, BCom, ACIS, TEP  

Amal Autar is the Executive Director of MITCO since 2007. He is an associate member of the UK Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators and of the Institute of Bankers in South Africa. A graduate from the University of Witwatersrand South Africa, Amal has been with MITCO since 1995. He is an associate member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and is the Secretary of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (Mauritius) Limited.

With a career in trust and corporate service work spanning over more than 14 years in the global business sector, Amal has built an extensive experience in the structuring and administration of global business companies, trusts and funds.


Sookraj Seechurn, FCIS, FAIA, MBA  

Sookraj Seechurn has joined MITCO as Director in July 2008 with more than 30 years’ working experience. He is a Fellow member of the UK Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, Fellow member of the Association of International Accountants of UK and Member of the Mauritius Institute of Professional Accountants.

He also holds a Masters degree in Business Administration from Somerset University UK. During his career, he has worked as Senior Accountant/Company Secretary of many major institutions and he has built up tremendous experience in Finance and business administration.


Peter Siaw, FCCA (UK), MBA  

Peter has over 15 years of work experience in the finance and accounting fields. He is a Fellow of the UK Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and holds an MBA from the University of Hull, England. Peter has spent a significant part of his career as an auditor in professional firms in England and Mauritius, mostly with Coopers and Lybrand, now PWC prior to joining MITCO in 2001.

He brings to the team a thorough knowledge of the accounting needs of global business companies, and specially hedge funds, private equity & real estate funds.


Patrick Lim, BA, FCCA (UK)  

Patrick joined the MITCO Team in 2007 as Administration and Finance Manager. Prior to joining MITCO, he had worked for 5 years at KPMG in Mauritius before moving to an international textile Group where he held the position of Finance and Operations Manager, overseeing the local and global operations of the Group.

Patrick is a Fellow of the UK Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and holds a BA degree in Accounting and Financial Management from the University of Sheffield, England.

His past roles have involved him working within administration, compliance, finance and operation teams, which have given him a broad range of experience in these areas.


Muhammad Reeaz Koomar, FCCA (UK)  

Reeaz joined the client accounting team of MITCO in November 2008. He is a Fellow of the UK Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. Prior to joining MITCO, he was working at one of the major Management Companies in Mauritius as Client Accountant. He has also practised as auditor at one of the Big Four auditing firms and has extensive experience in international and domestic accounting and taxation issues.

His working experience encompasses banking, auditing, accounting and global business sectors. He now brings his hands-on accounting experience and skills to support our client accounting team.


Reza Sookharee, BSc, ACCA (UK)  

Reza graduated from the University of Mauritius with a BSc (Accounting and Finance) in 2001. Whilst working at a local auditing firm, he pursued his studies towards becoming a member of the UK Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. He qualified as an Affiliate of the ACCA in 2003 and is now a full-fledged member of the Association. After qualification, he moved to one of the international accounting firms where he successively held the positions of audit senior and Supervisor. Reza joined MITCO’s Client Accounting Department in 2007 and brings with him his hands-on experience in accounting and auditing.


Aziz Shaikh, M.Com, DBM, DCFA  

Aziz holds a M.Com degree from the University of Pune in India. He has more than 5 years’ experience as a practising accountant and has worked both in India and in Mauritius in various industries. He brings along with him his working knowledge and experience in financial and accounting outsourcing. He has been with MITCO since 2004.


Khaveeta Ghoogoolah, BBA (Finance) Grad ICSA  

Khaveeta has joined the Corporate Services Department of MITCO in December 2009 as Senior Company and Trust Administrator. She has been working in the financial services sector for 9 years and prior to joining MITCO, she was working at the trust arm of a major South African banking group. During her tenure there, she spent 6 months in Jersey on an overseas assignment. Khaveeta graduated from Iowa State University (USA) with a BBA (major in finance). She has recently completed her studies towards becoming a member of the UK Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators. She currently manages a portfolio of HNW clients and subsidiaries of Multinationals.


Jabir Udhin, BA (Law and Management)  

Jabir graduated from the University of Mauritius with a BA (Hons) in Law and Management in 2007 and joined MITCO Team as Company and Trust Administrator in August 2007. Prior to joining MITCO, he was trained in a firm engaged in Forensic Accounting Investigation. He is currently pursuing his studies towards becoming a member of the UK Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators. Jabir administers a portfolio of trusts for HNW families and private clients as well as Mauritian subsidiaries of US and EU corporate & private equity Groups.


Jaya Mudhoo, BSc (Hons) Finance  

Jaya graduated from the University of Mauritius with a BSc (Finance) in 2007 and joined the Corporate Services Department of MITCO as Company and Trust Administrator in July 2009. She started her career as administrator at one of the leading management companies in Mauritius where she acquired the basic corporate administration skills. She later joined the Mauritius office of an international trust group and built up hands-on experience in company and trust setting up and administration, international tax structuring, compliance matters and business development.

She is currently completing her studies to become a member of the UK Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators.

Jaya manages a portfolio of entities and trusts for HNW clients and Multinationals.


Neelofar Ramgoolam, BSc (Accounting and Finance)  

Neelofar, also known as Neelu, graduated from the University of Mauritius with a BSc (Accounting and Finance) in 2006. After her graduation, she joined an international accounting and audit firm, where she has acquired the skills of accounts preparation and financial controls. She joined MITCO in 2007 as Client Accounts Assistant whilst pursuing further studies towards becoming a member of the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA – UK). She supports our Clients Accounting Team to service our increasing portfolio of back office accounting clients.


Akshay Asgarally, BSc  

Akshay graduated from the University Paris VII-Denis Diderot with a BSc degree in Economie et Gestion in 2006. He joined the MITCO Team as Compliance Officer in May 2009. Prior to joining MITCO, Akshay has had good exposure to the banking sector and in particular to the banking products and services, having spent 2 years at the Corporate Department of the Global Business and International Division of one of the largest international banks operating in Mauritius. Besides compliance and regulatory matters, Akshay will be handling new client take on and incorporation requests.


Kunal Mungutroy, BSc (Econ)  

Kunal joined MITCO’s Corporate Services Department in 2006 after his graduation from the University of Mauritius with a BSc (Economics). He provides a dedicated personalised service to a portfolio of HNW clients. He is currently reading for an M.A in Global Business at the University of Mauritius.


Vierra Lucky-Virassamy, B.Ed  

Vierra worked in Jakarta, Indonesia, for a major international advertising and PR firm before moving to its Mauritius agency. She is now with Clients Services at MITCO.
